4 Collision Repair Myths

Posted by Lauren Middleton on Jul 24th 2019

Getting into a car accident can be a confusing and stressful time. There is quite a bit of information out there about the aftermath of accidents and collision repair. Since we provide products to several popular collision repair shops in Connecticut, we thought we would go over 4 collision repair myths.

1. Only a dealership can do your car repair correctly. This is simply untrue. Many small boy shop technicians have the same certifications and experience as larger dealerships. They also have the same equipment. Keep in mind that if you hire a local body shop to do your repair, you're also promoting helping a small business.

2. Your insurance company is the one choosing where you get your vehicle serviced. You have complete control over who will your vehicle. Although most insurance companies refer clients to a Direct Repair Program shop, legally they have to haggle with the shop you choose if the quote is more expensive.

3. You have to get 3 estimates before getting your care repaired. This is another complete myth. Getting a car repair after an accident is stressful enough. Though it is good to shop around, if you have a good feeling for a certain shop, go with it. Your insurance will have to negotiate price with them.

4. You have to automatically replace the frame after an accident. Advanced technology has made frame repair easier. Most frames can be fixed now if there is not structural damage.
