5 Tips On Late Summer Auto Care

Posted by Lauren Middleton on Jul 26th 2019

July has almost come to a close and August is knocking on the door. Summer is a busy time for most families and I am sure you took at least one summer road trip. Your car was likely also exposed to summer extremes such as hot weather and storms. As summer closes, you’ll want to perform some routine car maintenance to make sure you have a smooth transition into fall and winter. Nothing is worse than a break down while driving the kids to school or work in colder weather. To celebrate the close of the season, our article today will be on 5 tips on late summer auto care.

1.Check your battery. Extreme summer heat can drain batteries. Batteries usually last for up to 5 years but the heat of summer can evaporate fluid which can cause the battery to drain.

2.Replace your wiper blades. Summer storms can really wear wipers down. You’ll want them in tip top shape for any remaining summer storms and then winter weather.

3.Make sure your heater and defroster are working. If there is a problem, you’ll want to have it fixed before the colder weather and frost comes.

4.Wash your car. You’ll want to wash away accumulated dead insects and sap that summer left behind. Leaving this debris on your paint can damage it over time. After washing, be sure to wax your vehicle to keep it looking shiny. Waxing also offers another coat of protection for paint.

5.Change out your vehicle floor mats. Winter’s weather can do a number on floor mats so you may want to invest in some heavy duty ones that are made of rubber and not fabric.
