Fun Family NASCAR Activities you can do at Home

Posted by Lauren Middleton on May 15th 2020

Today is National NASCAR Day! Unfortunately, due to the current situation with COVID-19, many races have been cancelled or rescheduled for the year. Since we can’t watch the races on television or in the stands right now, you can still plan some fun activities with the family to celebrate your love of NASCAR. These activities are for all ages and a lot of them use STEM as a way to complete them. I am sure that all the drivers out there are just as eager to see you in the stands as they are to get back on the track. Hopefully 2021 will have a much better year for race fans. Here are 5 family friendly home activities for NASCAR fans to celebrate National NASCAR Day.

1.Head to nascarfoundation.org to check out some family friendly activity sheets that will entertain kids and keep them learning while they’re at home. There is even a NASCAR Zoom background you can download to use.

2.Create some trophies and challenge the family to a racing simulator on a video gaming device. The winners will the trophies. You can even dress up in your favorite driver’s fan gear while playing.

3.Create a backyard obstacle course and host a race to go through it. Design your special racing number on cardboard and pin it to your clothes. If you want them to be more elaborate, they can even design their own race car costume. The obstacle course can consist of many different racing simulate obstacles such as the items below.

  • Fill a jug with water which simulates gassing up.(Fun when it is hot out)
  • Have them race around some poles in the ground to simulate dodging debris from a crash.
  • Create some fake tires with paper plates and attach Velcro to the back so the kids have to change their tires to continue the race.
  • 4.Fill a jar with nuts and bolts and see who in the family can guess the amount. For an award, the winner can pick out their favorite trackside dish for dinner or a snack.

5.Try NASCAR STEM. These activities are extremely fun and they focus on teaching kids science, technology, engineering, and math. The STEM activities are best fit for kids in grades 5 through 7.
