Useful Car Cleaning Hacks

Having your car professionally detailed can be quite pricey after all is said and done. If you want to cut some costs on vehicle maintenance this summer, there are quite a few ways to “hack” detailing your car at home. Most of these hacks can be done with simple household objects such as makeup brushes and coffee filters. If you want to skip going to the car wash and paying for a high-priced detail of your car, you should read the following tips on useful car cleaning hacks.

How to tackle dust in vehicle interiors

Clean your vents and other small spaces with compressed air. You can also use a thick makeup brush to remove stubborn dust. Just make sure you remove all them makeup before using them. “Slime” which can be purchased at toy stores is also extremely effective at removing dust. Just make sure you purchase slime without glitter.

Keep your car smelling fresh

Dryer sheets can make a great DIY air freshener. Rub them along your seats and interior to keep your vehicle smelling fresh. You can also insert pieces of fabric softener inside your vents. If you are not a fan of perfume like smells, you can also place a cup of dry ground coffee or coffee beans in a sock under your seat. Baking soda is useful for getting smells out of your seats and upholstery. Sprinkle some on your seats and rugs and leave it on overnight to absorb odors. Vacuum the baking soda up in the morning.

Cleaning the stubborn and hard to reach places

Sometimes the compressed air and makeup brushes just are not enough. Take a flat head screwdriver and wrap a cloth with cleaning solution on it. Use it reach all the cracks and crevices that have dirt and grime and embedded. Warm water and a toothbrush can help remove grime that is stuck to your upholstery. Dryer sheets also serve another purpose with car cleaning. You can wet a dryer sheet and use it to clean those stubborn bugs off of your grill.

More car cleaning hacks

If you often have a pet copilot in your car, you likely have a hair problem. Lightly spray your seats with water and them rub them with a squeegee. This will roll up the stuck on hair and make it easier to pick it up and get rid of it. If you have dirty cup holders, pull an old sock over the bottom of a travel mug. Spray the sock with some Windex and scrub away at those cup holders. If your have particularly dirty floor mats, put them in the dishwasher by themselves for easy cleaning.
