Tip 1: Give the Jeep you want to restore a complete inspection.
Restoring a Jeep, or any car, can be an expensive venture. To make sure you are getting the best bang for your buck, you’ll want to make sure the Jeep is actually worth restoring. If you find that the engine or other major parts are beyond help, it might be a wise idea to scrap it and find another one to work on. It also may be wise to hire a mechanic to look at the Jeep before you purchase it.
Tip 2: Stick with a Jeep that is easy to find restoration parts for.
Thanks to the internet, hard to find auto body parts are easier to access now. Even though you can find a variety antique Jeep body parts online, it is still difficult to find parts for Jeeps that were built earlier than the middle 1970s. It doesn’t hurt to also plan out a budget for these parts. You want to make sure you have the cash on hand ahead of time for each part you need.
Tip 3: Decide on what you’re going to use the Jeep for.
People purchase Jeeps for a variety of uses. They are definitely multi use vehicles. Newer Jeeps make excellent all terrain vehicles for winter and off roading. Older and classic Jeeps are often used as show vehicles at car cruises and parades. Knowing ahead of time what you want to use the Jeep for will ensure that you can purchase the correct parts ahead of time.
Tip 4: Make sure you have the space for the Jeep restoration project.
Restoring any type of vehicle takes a lot of time, space, and money. Before you start the restoration process, you will want to make sure you have a space to work in. Doing auto body work will likely require a power source so ideally working in a garage is best. Certain aspects of auto body work need certain tools so you’ll have to decide ahead of time what exactly your project will entail. You’ll want to put these tools into your budget and leave some extra for emergencies. Don’t forget to also purchase personal protection equipment such as gloves and respirators.
