Posted by Lauren Middleton on Jan 19th 2020

First impressions are always important when owning a business. Any person that works in any type of auto repair facility knows that working with cars can be a dirty job. Part of making a good first and continuing impression should be keeping your shop clean. It doesn’t have to be spotless but following some simple daily cleaning and organization tips can help keep your shop looking great on a continual basis. Our article this week will be on 5 tips on keeping your car repair facility clean.

1.A good first tip for keeping your facility clean is to make sure the bathrooms are clean. A dirty bathroom can be an immediate turn off to any customer. It can also be a turn off to employees too. Give the bathroom a good cleaning every night and make sure the items within are well stocked. It is also a good idea to have employees check it throughout the day to make sure it stays clean.

2.Make sure employees are aware that they should clean their individual areas on a daily basis. Encourage them to put their tools away, clean up spills, and dispose of trash. If employees are having trouble keeping up with the cleaning, it might be good idea to offer an incentive system.

3.Develop daily cleaning protocols. Sweep, mop, and pay special attention to cleaning up hazardous spills first. Make sure you have the items in stock to stick with the cleaning protocol. This may include mops, brooms, spill absorber, and grease cleaner.

4.Designate specific areas for certain items. Organization can go a long way in keeping a shop clean. Durable steel shelving is usually a good option to store most shop items on. Be sure to label the shelves so employees know where to stick items. Dangerous chemicals and substances should be stored in a separate cabinet.

5.Make sure your employees look clean. Employees also have a strong impression on the customer. A little oil and dirt may look ok, but it is probably a good idea to offer them a service to have their uniforms cleaned professionally. Clean uniforms also tend to last longer because oil and chemicals may eat away at the fabric.
