How to get your classic car ready for summer

Posted by Lauren Middleton on Mar 28th 2019

We have passed the first day of spring and are well on our way to summer solstice. If you are a class car owner, I bet you are heading to one of the many car shows that are held in New England this year. If your car has been safely stowed away from the harsh winter weather, we have some tips on how to get your classic car ready for summer.

1. The first and easy thing you should do with the car is to either bring it to a car wash or wash it yourself at home. To make sure the car is show ready, vacuum it out and be sure to wax it when washing is complete.

2. Check the oil. Oil should be good for about 4,000 to 5,000 miles but it is still a good idea to check it after sitting all winter long. If the oil is black and not amber colored, change it immediately.

3. Check your coolant levels. The hot weather of summer can easily make your car overheat so make sure your coolant is filled before hitting the road. Nothing is worse than being stuck on the side of the road in hot and humid summer weather.

4. Examine to your cars body to make sure you didn't miss any paint chips or small dents while storing it. These could have happened while showing it last year too so a double check never hurts.

5. Last of all check your tire pressure. If tires are not properly filled, they can lead to low gas mileage and premature wear. Check them with a tire gauge before leaving the house.
