How To Keep Your Car Cool in the Summer

Posted by Lauren Middleton on Jun 1st 2020

Summer is certainly a more comfortable time to be a driver. There are no cold induced dead batteries, snow storm commutes, or chipping away at an ice laden windshield. Summer does come with a few hot weather related inconveniences such as hot steering wheels and occasional overheating. The summer season has started and we will be going over some great tips on how to keep your car’s interior cool over the summer.

1.Use a sun shade: Sun Shades are made to be placed on the inside of a car’s windshield. The metallic sheen directs heat away from the car’s interior. A sun shade can also keep the seats cooler. Most sun shades fold up and can be easily stored when getting ready to drive the car.

2.Park in the shade: If possible, you should park in a garage during hot weather. If a garage is not available, parking under a tree is always a great alternative. If all else fails and you cannot locate shade to park in, using a sun shade is a good back up.

3.If you find that your steering wheel, gear shift, or any other interior part of the vehicle is too hot to touch, wipe it down with cold water. The water will evaporate quickly but will allow the vehicle parts to cool down enough so that you can touch them.

4.Leave your windows open a crack in hot weather: If air has even a small space to escape, it can actually help keep the vehicle’s interior temperature down. If you are getting ready to go somewhere and it is hot in the car, open the door for a few minutes to let the trapped heat escape.

5.Use towels to keep the seats cooler: This is very important if you use a car seat. Using a towel or blanket will keep the seats and car seat cooler and lessen the heat that they absorb. Covering a car seat can keep it cooler throughout the day and make loading up your child easier. Even though covering the car seat does work, you should check it before placing your infant in it when it is hot out.
