Planning a Classic Car Interior Restoration

Posted by Lauren Middleton on Jul 30th 2021

Whether you just purchased a classic car, or you currently own one, replacing the interior can increase its value and give the car an aesthetic face lift. Just remember that restoring the interior of a car can be a challenging project that requires a lot of time, energy, and money. We just started selling carpets and floor mats last year and have supplied many customers with the material they need for replacing the interior of their classic car. In this week’s article we’re going to talk about planning a classic car interior restoration.

Develop the plan for your classic car interior restoration.

Before beginning the process of this interior restoration, the most important thing you can do is map out a plan first. Having an interior restoration plan will help you save money and time, especially if you have never done it before. The easiest ways to do this is prioritize each task in the order in which you want them done. The most common things that get replaced are seat kits, panels, headliners, and fabric tops.

Set up the area in which you plan to do the interior restoration.

The space you plan to do your classic car restoration in should have adequate space to move freely while doing the restoration. There should also be space for tool storage and room to store the new upholstery. The space should be well ventilated as tearing out the car’s old upholstery may release dust and chemicals into the air. A garage is usually sufficient for an interior restoration but just make sure it has adequate lighting and can properly protect you and the car from the elements.

Set the budget for your classic car interior restoration.

Setting the budget for your interior restoration is one of the most important things you can do before the restoration starts. You can’t finish the restoration if you don’t have the money! Price out all the materials and tools you will need and remember that it never hurts to over budget in case of emergencies. Take your time and shop around for the best price for tools and materials. One another important you must fit into your budget is time. An interior restoration is a time consuming project! One more important thing to remember is that if you plan on a purchasing a classic car to restore, make sure the car will be able to run after you finish the restoration. There is no point in restoring the car if the engine isn’t in proper working order.
