The Hardest Cars to Work On

Posted by Lauren Middleton on Aug 11th 2021

Though we are a Connecticut auto body supplier, we often hear stories about the issues that our customers have while doing regular repairs on cars. These cars range from everything from Mini Coopers to Ford Trucks. Each of the vehicles on this list has a certain thing that makes it difficult to repair. Whether you are a home auto repair enthusiast or work as a professional technician in a shop, check out our blog this week on the hardest cars to work on.

The Ford F-250

Though this is one most popular truck brands out there, it is notoriously difficult to work on. If you need to do any repairs on this truck, you first have to remove the entire cab from the frame. Basically, you have to do more work on this truck before even starting the repair. Despite this, the Ford F-250 is still one of the most popular trucks out there.

The Mini Cooper

This mini feature of the car is one of the things that make it so difficult to repair. The lack of space in the engine compartment is one of the most common reasons it was cited as one of the hardest cars to work on in 2021. Another thing that makes the Mini Cooper hard to work in is the fact that only a person with smaller hands can really access the parts that need to be repaired. Even technicians with smaller hands may not come out unscathed. A lot of the smaller parts on the Mini Cooper also have a tendency to randomly break.

The Dodge Stratus

Even doing a simple task such as changing the battery on a Dodge Stratus can be difficult. To change the battery, you have to hack the car up and remove the front left wheel. Then you have to remove the bolts and rivets that attach the inner well to the vehicle. The whole process takes about forty five to sixty minutes and this is just to change the battery!

The Renaut Le Car

This classic was very popular in the 70s in Europe. It was considered a super economy car that was often compared to the Civic and VW Rabbit. It has a tiny engine bay and difficult mechanics. Many technicians dread working on the Renaut so the repairs can be very expensive. Even though the Renaut made this list, there are still several dedicated Renault fans out there.

The Toyota MR2

Many technicians love working on Toyotas but the MR2 still made this list. The Toyota MR2 comes with a mid-engine, turbochargers, and front wheel drive system. All of this makes the MR2 hard to drive while maintaining the drivetrain. These cars are also notorious for having issues with their water line that cools the turbocharger. This part is very hard to work on.
