The end of summer is approaching fast, and it is a very bittersweet feeling for many people across New England. Labor Day marks the unofficial end of summer, and many people will be hitting the road this year before children head back to school for the fall and winter season. Aa a fun way to close out the summer, we have put together the top 6 places to take a Labor Day road trip in New England.

Mystic, CT – This is a local favorite of our because we are located in Connecticut. Hop in the car and head to this small seaside town that dates back to 1654. It is home to a world class aquarium, several fine dining restaurants, a maritime museum, and a world-famous cider mill where you can really get into that fall feeling. If you want to make a weekend of it, there are several small bed and breakfasts you can stay at.

Bristol, RI – This is a wonderful waterfront town in southern Rhode Island. Bristol has wonderful views of Narragansett Bay and has an all-American Main Street with shops, inns, and restaurants. If you want to have an active weekend, it also offers several spots to walk and bike. Bristol is also close to Newport, RI which is another quaint seaside town you can tour.

Jackson, NH – Those who love the outdoors should definitely take a road trip to Jackson, NH. It is close to Mt. Washington and offers hiking, biking, canoeing, kayaking, and lots of sight seeing. Burlington, VT – This increasingly popular town offers amazing views of Lake Champlain. It is a college town, so visitors have a large choice of bars, restaurants, shops, and theatres. Most of the attractions are within a four-block shopping area. If the bar scene isn’t your thing, there’s plenty of mountain and lakeside scenery to see. It is said that Burlington brings together the best of urban and small town in New England.

York Beach, Maine – York Beach is a great destination for families who are looking for a fun seaside day trip. Besides an expansive beach, there is also a zoo and amusement park. You can also visit the famous Nubble Lighthouse as well as travel to the nearby Kittery Trading Post. There is no shortage of souvenir shops, seafood restaurants, and ice cream stands. It is a great option for those who have small children with shorter attention spans.
