Ways to Maintain the Value of a Classic Car

Posted by Lauren Middleton on Aug 11th 2021

One of the most exciting things a classic car enthusiast can experience is selling their car off at a great price. There are, however, several things that can decrease the value of a car. Since we supply several classic car restorers with auto body parts, we decided to focus our article this week on ways to maintain the value of your classic car. The great thing about maintaining the value of classic car is that it does not take a lot of work at all.

Keep the classic car clean.

The easiest way to keep your classic car’s value up is to not let dust and dirt build up on it. Most classic car owners park their car for the winter and that is where the dust and dirt will build up. Built up dust and dirt can cause several problems such as impaired performance, chipping paint, and rust. If you take your classic car out regularly, wash it, dry it with a soft rag and then apply a coat of wax. If you store the car over the winter, be sure to place it under a good quality car cover that will block out dirt and dust.

Keep the original parts.

This is one of the harder ways to maintain a classic car’s value as many original parts may not be available for repurchase. Only repair parts on the vehicle when it is necessary. If you end up using a more modern part, the value of the vehicle will be significantly impacted. Just remember that original is always the best when preserving the value of a classic car.

Don’t skip on regular maintenance.

Just like modern vehicles, classics need regular maintenance too. Tire rotations, tune ups, and oil changes are all very important. When you keep a record of all the maintenance you have done, it provides documentation that you have taken good care of the car. A serious buyer will know that a great paint job cannot hide things that have gone wrong under the hood because of poor maintenance.

Don’t make modifications.

It might be tempting to make your classic car look unique with some new modifications, this will decrease the car’s value because they are not original. While the modifications may make the car more fun to drive and to look at, they are not worth it if you want to resell the car as an original.
