Why More Women Are Buying Pickup Trucks

Posted by Lauren Middleton on Aug 20th 2020

We have seen an uptick in truck body parts being sold at our shop and the customers are mostly women. This is great news because a truck can actually be a great vehicle for a woman. They are much safer than sports cars and offer a variety of uses. Pickup trucks are actually beating out vans and SUVs for a favorite family vehicle. In fact, there has been a 67% uptick in pickup truck sales by women since 2008. Since we’ve had so many new customers coming in, our article this week will focus on why a pickup truck makes a great vehicle for a woman.

Pickup trucks are extremely versatile vehicles. Whether you’re using it for a hobby or transporting the family around, trucks offer lots of storage space and offer the security of having 4 wheel drive in the winter. A lot of our customers use their trucks for towing. Whether you’re trucking your horses to a show or bringing the boat to a fun day on the lake, a pickup truck can do it.

Pickup trucks are also more affordable than some SUVs. Many women who have families are choosing to purchase pickup trucks as their family vehicle because they offer the same features as many SUVs but are easier on the wallet. Modern trucks now come with collision warning, blind spot warnings, backup cameras, and even emergency braking systems. Pickup trucks with extended cabs are now large enough to accommodate a child’s car seat.

Pickup trucks also come in a variety of sizes which also increases their versatility. Smaller trucks are actually quite fuel efficient and can be a great asset for a woman whose job requires long drives and ample storage space in the truck’s bed. Larger, heavy duty trucks are better suited for women that tow things on a regular basis. Larger trucks can still be fuel efficient if regular maintenance such as keeping the tires properly inflated and keeping the fuel filter clean are practiced.

Many women have also said that driving a truck makes them feel empowered. They feel stronger and safer when driving a larger vehicle. Pickup trucks also foster a feeling of independence because they offer the ability to do things such as tow trailers and transport heavy loads on their own.
